Family Therapy
Family therapy is designed to address specific issues affecting the total well-being and functioning of a family.
According to Dr Murray Bowen, families are defined as emotional units where members are deeply interdependent and individuals are unique but connected to the family. When one individual family member has a problem, it trickles down to affect the entire family. In any family system any problem whether individually or collectively is best addressed when the entire family is involved. Each family member contributes positively and negatively to the functioning of the family.
The goal of family therapy is to work together to address the issues affecting the family such as conflicts, communication etc so that the well-being of the family is restored. Also family therapy helps everyone in the family understand and support each other and work through difficult challenges.
Family therapy usually focuses on resolving conflict, building healthy relationships, improving family relationships, building healthy boundaries and resilience, building healthy and strong attachment bonds, enhancing communication skills, exploring unique family dynamics and working as a unit.
